Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Alexandre Sanfurgo is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in São Paulo, Brazil, with over 20 years of experience. He graduated in Medicine from Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes and completed his General Surgery residency in Santos, São Paulo. He trained in plastic surgery under Prof. Dr. Ewaldo Bolivar de Souza Pinto and Dr. Osvaldo Saldanha — two of the most respected names in Brazilian plastic surgery.

He is board-certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery — a dual qualification most surgeons offering robotic diastasis repair internationally do not have. This combination is the foundation of MIRELA®: the structural precision of general/abdominal wall surgery, applied with a plastic surgeon’s eye for body contour and aesthetic outcome. He is the creator of the MIRELA® technique for robotic-assisted diastasis and abdominal contouring, and already treats international patients traveling from the United States, Germany, Italy, China, and beyond.

Research & Recognition

Dr. Sanfurgo is the only plastic surgeon in Brazil exclusively dedicated to aesthetic robotic surgery of the abdominal wall (MIRELA®). He is a certified da Vinci® Xi console surgeon at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, São Paulo.

His research on the MIRELA® technique has been published in two peer-reviewed international journals: “Minimally Invasive Robotic Endoscopic Lipoabdominoplasty (MIRELA) for Rectus Diastasis: A Clinical and Demographic Case Series” (PRS Global Open), and “Robotic Aesthetic Rectus Diastasis Repair: The Minimally Invasive Robotic Endoscopic Lipoabdominoplasty (MIRELA) Technique” (Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, Oxford University Press). He has authored international book chapters on robotic surgery and presented his work at national and international congresses across Europe and Latin America. He currently serves as Chapter Head of Robotic Surgery at the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) for the 2026–2027 term.

Philosophy

I believe plastic surgery isn’t just about changing a body — it’s about changing an attitude, changing a feeling that bothers the patient: how she feels, how she feels about her own body. Before I operate, I ask myself one question: will this change how she feels about herself, not just how she looks? If the answer is yes, that’s the surgery I want to do. That’s also why results without visible stigma matter so much to me — a scar, or a result that looks artificial, can create new shame instead of removing it. MIRELA® was designed with that in mind: to let her feel secure in her own body, without a scar that tells a different story.
